Pastor Dave Ginter

Okay folks! It's time to play "Stump the Pastor". Ask me anything dealing with the Bible and/or Theology and I will try to answer it. I will collect questions all this week and then respond to them on the blog, one-by-one.

Nice challenge.. Hope you dont regret it. Why is Jesus called Jesus and Not IManuel.
BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL," which translated means, "GOD WITH US."
MATT 1:23
Maybe Immanuel was his middle name?

Why is John the baptist called Elijah, was people waiting for Elijah?
Could we believe that John the baptispt is a reencarnation of Elijah?

Thanks for the challenge Pastor Dave, I deeply appreciate it.

Based on Revelations 4:11 "You created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created." So, I gather that we were created for God´s pleasure, to worship Him. This makes God sound self-centered and egocentric. I know God is mighty but if we, as humans were able to do something like this and did it, we would be considered unhumble. Why is it ok for God to be self-centered? Well, not even sure how to phrase the question appropriately but hope this makes sense....

I believe in the account of creation as detailed in Genesis 1 but people often discredit the Genesis account pointing out to the dinosaurs saying both accounts cannot be true. How do we respond?

I have tithe always since I got my first salary. and I think it is a good thing to do. But is it Biblical that today's pastors use New Testament verses that talk about "Christian Giving" and do not talk about Tithe, to try to make people tithe?. Some even say that if you don't tithe you are cursed, using some verse in Malaqui. At some point I studied and didn't find a new testament verse that actually says specifically that as Christians we need must Tithe.....I found a lot that say that we as Christians need to give with generosity.... It also seems that if we can not use Old Testament verses to affirm that we must tithe, otherwise we would need to do so many other offerings that they used to do. What do you think about it?
